Shades

With all that talk about sconces, we thought you may need to know a little more.

At what height should I hang my wall sconces?

The bottom edge of your sconces should be 60" from the floor. Today many houses are being built with taller ceilings. Wall sconces in this type of room will need to be higher for the right look. Our rule of thumb is that the top portion of the sconce should be at eye level.

What about my hallway?

To light a hallway, alternate the fixtures on opposing walls where they are not facing each other. Sconce lighting should hang 8 to 10 feet apart while the bottom of the sconce should be at least 60" from the ground.

What bulbs do I use in my wall lighting?

Sconce lighting in our unique wall sconces category and our sconces category take 40 watt bulbs (small candelabra base). However, If you intend to use chandelier or sconce shades, which we hope that you will, you will need to use 25 watt bulbs or less for safety. Some of our antique/vintage wall sconces require large based light bulbs. Even so, we still recommend 40 watt bulbs if you are not using sconce shades and 25 watts if you are planning to use shades.

What if my room is not wired for sconce lighting?

We realize not every house is wired for wall sconces. However you have two options. The first is to place your sconces near a wall outlet. All Heavenly Lights sconces can be wired with a plug, you will need to notify us in the "Special Request" portion of our check-out pages.

Another option is to have a licensed electrician wire your room so that your sconces can be hardwired to the wall. This usually costs from $50 to $100 for each space you have wired. We find that it is well worth the investment.
